Anderson Silva Wants to Box with Roy Jones Jr.

Since joining the ranks of the Ultimate Fighting Championship less than two years ago, middleweight champion Anderson Silva has all but cleaned house. He debuted with a dismantling of highly touted Ultimate Fighter alumnus Chris Leben, immediately captured the title from then-champion Rich Franklin, and hasn’t looked back since.

He fended off challenges by Ultimate Fighter season four winner Travis Lutter and seven-time King of Pancrase Nate Marquardt, before once again stopping Franklin. Most recently, at UFC 82, he submitted former Pride champion Dan Henderson to solidify his position as the No. 1 middleweight in the world.

“Anderson really would love to fight Roy Jones, Jr. in a boxing match,” says his manager, Ed Soares, confirming recent speculation. “It’s not just talk, we really would like to put that fight together.”

That’s not to say the Silva discounts Jones’ abilities. Both he and Jones are often argued as being the best pound-for-pound fighter in their respective sports. But Silva feels that fighters in mixed martial arts are often unjustly criticized as not being as technically proficient as their boxing counterparts, a misconception that he would like to dispel.

It sure would be interesting to watch (don't know if I'd pay PPV money to see it though). As long as Silva didn't get knocked silly early on, MMA should be able to gain some nice exposure.

Silva is a killer striker, I could easily see him competing with Roy Jones

Don't mean he can stay with a boxer in a boxing ring...boxing is more than punching.

Footwork! I can't imagine an MMA guy having the footwork to stick with a boxer.

Re: Anderson Silva Wants to Box with Roy Jones Jr.

Some reports say Silva actually trained in boxing when he was younger and had a fight or two (one source says he was 1-1 in boxing). There's no doubt in my mind that he would be respectable in the ring. But it would be interesting to see how he would do against a world-caliber boxer in RJJ.

Report: Silva-Jones in Ongoing Negotiations for Boxing Match - MMAjunkie.com

Talks have been confirmed about a possible fight taking place. Both sides want it to happen.

However, hurdles still are in place. First of all, the UFC would have to give the okay and allow Silva to do it. Silva needs to get a boxing license in whatever state they plan to fight in.

This is interesting.

Everything is possible if you throw money at it...if there is enough interest there will be a fight...people can get bought.
