WWE.com Launches 'Industry News' Feature

WWE has been criticized for being a monopoly in the world of pro wrestling since 2001. Chairman Vince McMahon has made it a feature of the organization to never acknowledge any other pro wrestling organization...only under extreme circumstances in the past have they done so. In their own world (their TV, web-site, magazines, etc.), they are the only option if a person is interested in pro wrestling/sports entertainment.

So to the shock of many, WWE.com launched over the past 18 hours a feature called 'INDUSTRY NEWS' with links to independent news sites featuring stories about all things pro wrestling. Exclusive to WWE this feature is not.

Stories can now be found about TNA, and U.S. independent promotions such as Ring of Honor or Chikara.

The stories are edited down and usually incomplete but they do cite the original web-site who created the content.

It's beyond weird that they have decided to do this. In the past they have talked about wanting their web-site to become the hub for all pro wrestling fans. WWE.com has experienced a decline in original visitors over the past few months so this may be an attempt to boost visitors.

I like it. It'll make WWE.com one-stop shopping to check up with everything going on in the industry.

Not quite Quality.

It's too weird why they would decide to do this. They have to feel it would increase their hits. Isn't there other ways (without acknowledging other companies) of doing such a thing?

I don't see what the big deal is about acknowleding other companies. I know wrestling's always had a thing about that, but it they talked about transactions and the backgrounds of their athletes more openly, it'd do a long way towards helping legitimize them, at least in my opinion.

Think of it this way Empire.... we post certain things in certain ways to get google hits for GTG... if someone googles somethin on wrestlin they get a hit for what they are lookin for and it's through wwe's website. They take a look and also look at wwe's website while they are there. Those that think wwe is a monopoly are now lookin like the perverbial naysayer/sourgrape people.

You have to think.... Vince had a way of doin business that made WWF/WWE the giant it is today. Shane and Stephanie are runnin the business now, and they are changin some things to make it go further. They need to a better job of spreadin talent amongst the shows.
