Roy Jones defeated Felix Trinidad tonight at Madison Square Garden in a matchup of two of the greatest fighters of their generations -- and two fighters who actually looked quite impressive, even though they're well past their primes.
Trinidad had been out of the ring for two and a half years, and Jones had lost three of his last five fights, but neither fighter looked particularly rusty. Trinidad, in fact, got off to a very solid start, and appeared to be ahead early. But Jones showed his strength and power later on, sending Trinidad to the canvas in the seventh round and again in the 10th, and by the end it was clear that Jones had won.
The official verdict: Jones by unanimous decision, with decisive margins on all three judges' scorecards. The victory gives Jones a record of 52-4. Trinidad falls to 42-3.
