A jury in Jamaica has convicted the nephew of former heavyweight boxing champion Trevor Berbick of murder in the fighter's 2006 death.
Berbick is best known for being the last man to fight
Muhammad Ali, and he briefly owned the WBC heavyweight title, before losing it to
Mike Tyson (pictured).
The Jamaica Gleaner reports that the trial of Berbick's nephew, Harold Berbick, lasted four weeks, but it took the 12-person jury less than an hour to return a guilty verdict. Berbick's wife's reaction:
"I have to be comforting my four kids throughout the entire ordeal," she said. "My son, Trevor Berbick Jr., was unable to travel from Florida to Jamaica, as he is still picking up the pieces following the brutal murder of his dad." She added: "I can now look them in the eye and say justice has been served for your father."
Berbick was 51 years old when he was found murdered near his hometown of Norwich, Jamaica.
