With the hollywood writers strike in full blast and expectations that it will last well into 2008, TV networks are bracing themselves for fresh content. The beneficiary may be the sport of MMA.
Reports say UFC is nearing a deal with CBS that would make them the broadcast TV home for the most famous MMA organization. The report says sources believe a deal could be announced "as soon as this week." UFC would air on CBS in early 2008 as long as the strike is still in effect.
"UFC on CBS would be a curious fit, since MMA appeals to a younger and male audience; CBS tends to skew more to the 25-to-54 demo. Word of the negotiations between CBS and UFC was first reported by the Los Angeles Times. CBS declined comment."
Reportedly, NBC is looking to pair up and air MMA content on their network in early 2008. "Possibilities run the gamut from brands such as newly formed M-1 Global to K-1 to the International Fight League (which airs on FSN and MyNetworkTV). On Nov. 3, MyNetworkTV aired a live IFL event; its deal is not believed to be exclusive to MNTV."
