| Congress Plans Steroid Hearings in 2008 Congress is planning to hold hearings on performance enhancing drugs when they return from their break, in 2008. "An Illinois congressman said yesterday that he will hold a hearing on the use of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball and other sports" according to the Baltimore Sun. This of course is just days after Barry Bonds was indicted for perjury and obstruction of justice. It's believed one of the "other sports" targeted for hearings in 2008 will be professional wrestling. Of course pro wrestling is not a sport, so it will be interesting to see if they are included. After the Chris Benoit tragedy this past Summer, steroids became the hot topic all over the national news media which tickled Congress' interest. At the time, there was talk that Congress would hold Congressional Hearings on steroids in pro wrestling but nothing came of it. They sent letters to various wrestlers but did not pursue it further. With Thanksgiving just days away, Congress goes on vacation until next year. Rep. Bobby Rush said hearings are being planned for early 2008 and that "timing was right, given that former senator George Mitchell soon is expected to release the results of his independent review of steroids in baseball." With baseball, I wonder if it will be anything more than what the 2005 hearings were. If nothing else, they certainly were entertaining. It's because of those hearings that Rafael Palmeiro is known as a liar and Mark McGwire has fallen off the face of the earth. Certainly a story to follow. |
