Former world heavyweight champion boxer (42-1-1) Riddick Bowe has had a strange road over the past seven, eight years. In 2004 he made his return to the boxing ring after a seven year break (which included a stint in prison for kidnapping). He defeated Marcus Rhode and then in 2005, defeated Billy Zumbrun.
Now, after declaring bankruptcy,
Rowe will turn to mixed martial arts. He has signed an exclusive fight deal with Xcess Entertainment. His first fight is scheduled for December 12th. No opponent has been named yet.
Of course this has that sideshow/freakshow feel to it. Depending on who they choose to fight him, he'll have to contend with a guy who (should have at least) a good knowledge of the ground game. Whether it be brazilian jiu-jitsu or wrestling, can Rowe compete with that?
