Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva for December

Dave Meltzer's update earlier today included a newsbit on the fight that has been scheduled for literally five years but has never taken place. His exact quote, "--Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva is now verbally agreed upon by both sides to take place on 12/29 in Las Vegas "

I'm sure it's been verbally agreed upon many times, it's just a matter of getting the guys to the show without any problems. Liddell lost at UFC 76 last month to Keith Jardine and the potential fight with Silva was expected to be dead. Now it appears UFC President Dana White and match-maker Joe Silva (no relation) will go ahead with the fight anyway at UFC 79.

It looks like this fight is 99.2% official. DirecTV has already begun advertising the fight. UFC is expected to officially announce it at UFC 77 this weekend.

So what is main event of UFC 79

I would think the main event has to be the welterweight title match, especially considering Serra and Hughes will be coming off of the Ultimate Fighter show.

Says something about a show when Liddell vs. Silva will probably be second from the top.

Finally, UFC has officially announced the Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva fight for December 29th on PPV in Vegas.

They announced it during Spike TV's Scream Awards show.
