Boxer vs Wrestler in a UFC match?

Can the best heavy weight boxer take out the best of the WWE in a UFC match?

Re: Boxer vs Wrestler in a UFC match?

i would say yes (unless the "wrestler" has a martial arts background)

the boxer is trained to take and dish out actual punishment ..... the "wrestler" (actor) takes and dishes out fake punishment

Depends who we're talking about. A guy like Kurt Angle has a legit background to call upon. I think he could take a boxer.

I think it would be an intersting bout...how about a match against the Great Kahli?

Yeah, but he has to get close enough to do it...a boxer with speed probably has the edge on him.

That Kahli dude is huge, but I have no idea if he could even take a legitimate punch. I remember a few years back, they had a guy they were pushing as a legitimate shootfighter. They signed him up to box Butterbean in an exhibition bout, and Butterbean absolutely killed the guy. Now, Butterbean's no Roy Jones Jr., so what does that tell you about most WWE guys vs. boxers?

Oh yeah, I remember that - Antonio Inoki was his name. He's a legend over there in Japan. He started at the age of 17, won countless pro wrestling titles, has a bit of an MMA background, he was an all-Brazilian shot and discus champion, founded New Japan Pro Wrestling (I believe; he at least owns it) and was elected to the House of Councillors legislature. In fact, according to Wikipedia he was "Inoki was the first government official from a democractic nation to have a political meeting with Fidel Castro of Cuba." and even negotiated the release of some prisoners from Iraq with Saddam Hussein. Quite a life the guy's had.

Yeah, but he did squat against Ali...spent the match on his back like a crab trying to grab him in a leg lock and take him to the mat...

I remember that. It was the 'brawl for it all'. The winner got to face Betterbean at wrestlemania....forget which one. If I remember Butterbean KO'd him early in the first round. Bart Gunn didn't stand a chance.

Bart Gunn, thank you, that was the dude. Got clobbered by Butterbean and was effectively never heard from again.

Inoki did spend the entire match on his back kicking at Ali's legs. That whole deal is interesting. Leading up to the fight, all the officials were trying to get Ali to understand what was gonna happen but he was fearing that it would turn into a 'shoot' (or a legit fight) so that's why he ended up doing nothing. In fact, some feel that the damage he took in that match may have helped lead to his parkinsons.

As far as the original question, it all depends on the individual like Lefty pointed out. Some guys are legit tough while others simply aren't. If it was under MMA rules, then certain wrestlers I think would have the advantage. As long as they could avoid the big punch, they could take the boxer down and use a submission hold.

But that Butterbean KO of Bart was hilarious. It ended Bart's pro wrestling career basically. He recently got into MMA in Japan I think.

Re: Boxer vs Wrestler in a UFC match?

Empire, azrael, anyone else who follows wrestling closely... if you could take any one pro wrestler into a shootfight or MMA style match, who would you take. It probably will sound funny, but I'd take Dean Malenko - short, quick, technically sound, and once even snapped a guy's ankle in a wrestling match because he was taking liberties with the script. Tough little bugger.

Re: Boxer vs Wrestler in a UFC match?

Today, I wouldn't take Malenko only because he's older now and I assume he hasn't been working out as routinely and whatnot.

If I had to choose one pro wrestler...the obvious answer is Brock Lesnar

But I'd look to the guys who were wrestlers in college, a guy like Lashley. As far as tough guys, Finlay and Regal are legit. Angle definitely but I don't trust his neck or health in general.
