I felt I should post this since Benoit is one of the most popular wrestlers in the world.


I just found out about 10 minutes ago, went to WWE.com and there it was.

WWE.com reports Chris Benoit and his family (Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports his wife Nancy and their son) were found dead in their Atlanta home today. Atlanta Police are at the scene and investigating. No further details are available at this time.

This is taken from another wrestling news site which is one of the more reliable ones...."Benoit had been scheduled to appear on a WWE house show on Saturday. Sources tell us Benoit called to first say he would be taking a later flight, and then to say he would not be attending the house show due to a family illness. According to one source, Benoit said both his wife and son were throwing up blood and he needed to stay to take care of them."

Benoit is widely considered to be one of the best pro wrestlers of this generation. WWE's show tonight (which was previosly scheduled to be 3 hours from 8pm-11pm) has changed to a Benoit Tribute show.

Last night was a WWE PPV where Benoit was scheduled to wrestle. However he flew home due to personal reasons and nothing else was mentioned.

Well, pro wrestling being pro wrestling, the WWE already in the middle of a asinine "Vince McMahon is dead" storyline, and my inability to find any credible sources for this story, I have to ask. Are we sure this is fact and not fiction? I mean, I really hate to ask that. And if this is real, it's a horrific tragedy. But the lines between fact and fiction are so blurred when it comes to the WWE, and I can't find any newspaper or AP stories on this.

I know what you mean Lefty, the boy who cried wolf....but it's tough of me to imagine they would use such a thing as a storyline (Benoit & his family).

The thing that tells me it's true is also the fact that TNA (tnawrestling.com) has a post about Benoit.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution doesn't have anything but I chalk it up to the story just breaking and not many details (practically none) being available.

Yeah, I mean, it's unbelievable. Right after they started this McMahon storyline, Sherri Martel died. Now it looks like Benoit and his family have passed too. It was a stupid idea, and I hope they at least end it now out of respect to Benoit and his family since they didn't out of respect to Martel and her family.

seems either Fox News or CNN would have at least something on it ...... i dont watch wrestling at all and i have heard of him ...... and both of them have bureaus in Atlanta

As far as wrestling gos... Benoit is one of the few I like. I watch wrestlin(no where near as much as I used to). I don't follow the whole story line crap(especially the assinine Vince dead thing). This will be devastating to WWE just after losing Eddie Guerro less than 2 years ago.

I don't watch WWE as much anymore since being moved to midnights, but Benoit was always one of my favorites. He will be missed.

Professional wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their 7-year-old son Daniel were found dead in the family's Georgia home Monday, the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said.


Lt. Tommy Pope said the three were found at their home about 2:30 p.m., and the deparment was investigating the deaths as a homicide. Pope said results of autopsies were expected Tuesday.

World Wrestling Entertainment released a statement breaking the news earlier. It canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.


Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

Wasn't Vince dead last week? I saw on the internet a pop up asking if Vince McMahon was really dead in fact. What if this is some ploy for the Undertaker to resurrect them both or something? McMahon isn't above a PT Barnum like stunt like this to get people to watch his show. I loved Benoit really. Loved it that he won the title at Wrestlemania XX but I don't trust Vince McMahon sending out false stuff to the media.

My husband is the wrestling fan in the family. He loves the actual wrestling but hates the soap opera stuff.
McMahon is a bigger idiot than Matt Millien. A rich idiot, but an idiot never the less.
I used to watch wrestling in the "good old days" of Verne Gagne, Angelo Poffo, and Gagne's son and his friend, " The Flying something or others" Some great athletes back then. I remember my grandmother, a gentle, kind lady, watching wrestling and going "get him, get him"
This is a tragedy, if true. We will have to wait and see for more details.
If its just a publicity stunt, its a tacky one.
