Im pretty sure the majority of wrestlers use steroids or some sort of enhancer, I will say benoit was a great entertainer but if he did indeed kill his family then what was the motivation I wonder? Steroids may make you edgy but they dont make you kill people,I wonder what made him snap,this is truly sad though..

I would think thwy can send people into a rage, and it can be compound with a fight you have with the spouse, once he killed his wife in a fit of anger, he might have reasoned that he would kill himself next and did not want anyone to get his kid...not logical choices, but hey not sure Chris was big on logic...

I dont know, ive never taken any but just cant see it driving you to that point, I had a buddy who used to take them and he seemed irratable at times but not into rage, chris mustve been real f'd up to not only kill his wife but his own son...cant imagine the logic behind it..what really questions me is how he did it, since there was presumably no bullets involved, you can prob gather the deaths were not quick nor painless..

I've got a buddy that new Benoit somewhat.... and he isn't buying this Benoit killed his family. He said Benoit was one of the bigger family people out there.... He said if Benoit did it.... Something just went haywire in his brain... he won't buy it. As far as steroids go in wrestlin... yes they use them... after Eddi's death though, they started cracking down on wrestlers for abuse and addiction. I believe they have suspended atleast four since Eddie's death.

The WWE Wellness Policy went into effect in early 2006 with random testing and consequences for positive testing. The initial results were clear in that at least some of the wrestlers appeared to have gotten smaller in a small amount of time on TV. Some guys were suspended (the largest name of which was Kurt Angle).

Angle's issue is a whole other story though - painkiller addiction from wrestling with a broken neck because they wouldn't give him time off, at least according to what I read in some MMA magazine a few months back. In terms of the Benoit story, it's probably best at this point just to let the investigators do their jobs. But I'd sure like to know what was on those text messages that alerted them in the first place.

Yeah, I definitely remember that. Both the WWF and WCW stopped using handbike, zipline entrances for a while after that.

Well WWE has never done a stunt like that to this date...and will never.

As for those text messages, I think it's safe to assume the authorities have seen them either on Benoit's phone or possibly talked with the person(s) who received them. The thing that can be known from them is whether or not Benoit showed remorse, if he freaked out, if he was babbling incoherently via text messages, etc. I think that's the only thing available that can inform anyone about his state of mind.

Not sure that's the only info they were able to get from the text messages, because in the latest AP story making the rounds, the police seem to have a pretty clear idea of what happened and when it happened. The only thing they don't seem to have is a possible motive.

Some interesting notes from Bob Ryder of 1wrestling.com (I don't know if he still does, but Ryder at one point worked in the WCW and TNA offices)...

In speaking with close friends and confidants of Chris Benoit contacted this afternoon, apparently there were some warning signs that something was wrong with Benoit.

Some of the information learned by 1Wrestling.com by colleagues and friends that did not want to be quoted:

"This wasn't roid rage, this was insanity. Roid rage doesn't last for 48 hours. There were signs that something was wrong. Stories have emerged that a year ago he became paranoid and believed he was being followed. He wouldn't let Nancy leave the house because he believed someone was out to get them."

“Chris hated religion. He didn't believe in it. I cannot comprehend him putting bibles by the bodies. I am shocked.”

In addition, 1Wrestling has learned that sources close to Nancy are reporting that she had a safety deposit box with evidence of past rages and that authorities should check the box if anything ever happened to her.

Would it matter much?...I hate that we disect someones private life to the detail we do sometimes...does the motive matter? I mean a 7 yearold died in the process...what possible motive can there be?

My best friend knew the girl from her wrestling days in Florida, she used to sell wrestling magazines at the old Eddie Graham Sports Arena...I say her life was probably better off if she hadn't crossed paths with pro wrestling.

No, it doesnt matter at all. Knowing why or the details wont change the tragedy one bit. I remember one time a young man we worked with died in a car accident. People began speculating whether or not alcohol was involved.My husband just said it didnt make any difference. The young man was dead now. This struck me at the time and I have never forgotten it.

well here i disagree, im of the school of thought here that "knowledge is power" ....... if steroids are found to be in his system at the time he did this and are believed by experts to be a contributing factor, it could save lives in the future imo

just like the young man in the car accident .... if alcohol was found to be a factor, just maybe it would help someone decide to stop drinking and driving
