Yahoo! Sports is running an interesting story right now essentially calling Chuck Liddell the Babe Ruth of MMA.

According to the story, "Liddell's dominance of the early years of MMA is not as obvious as Ruth's rule over baseball. But if he defeats [Quinton "Rampage" Jackson], he'll have beaten every man he's ever faced and made a convincing argument for himself... He's defeated Randy Couture, who currently holds the UFC’s heavyweight title, in two of three matches. He's dominated Tito Ortiz in two fights. He's also beaten notables such as Vitor Belfort, Kevin Randleman, Babalu Sobral, Murilo Bustamante, Alistair Overeem, Jeremy Horn and Jeff Monson."

"None of the current crop has added skills better than Liddell," adds author Kevin Iole. "And until that true multi-dimensional fighter comes along, Liddell stands alone at the top of the MMA world." Do you agree?

He has been dominant. I have only seen him a few times though. I got to see one of the Ortiz beatdowns. Shouldn't he be the Marciano of the sport instead of Babe Ruth.

I think the Babe Ruth is Royce Gracie who seriously dominated the sport for nearly a decade before he suffered his first loss. In fact, the UFC was created to display the famous Gracie Jiu Jitsu against other styles like wrestling, kickboxing, sambo, muay thai, etc.

There's no doubt Liddell is the top guy in the sport right now (not counting the reigning PRIDE Heavyweight CHampion, Fedor....this guy is seriously as dominant as anyone).

Watching most of Liddell's recent fights, he's just so hard to get to the ground. His take down defense against Ortiz in December was amazing. And b/c it's so hard, when you're close he just uses those big fists to knock you out. The guy deserves all the celebrity he's achieved, that's for sure.
