This has been a rumor for months now but it has picked up steam over the past day. Yesterday, Sherdog.com reported based on their sources that Pride was sold to the Fertitta Brothers (who collectively own 90% of the UFC) although the deal was not finalized. Today, MMAWeekly.com reports the same from their sources.

The report from MMAWeekly says the deal is believed to include some fighter contracts, the Pride video library along with the brand name. There's no word on when or if the deal will be finalized but "it is believed that Nobuyuki Sakikabara, the President & CEO Of Dream Stage Entertainment (Pride’s present owner), is traveling to the United States this week in regards to matters related to the agreement."


This would be earth shattering news in the MMA world. Although not unexpected since Pride is in terrible shape financially and rumors have floated forever about UFC's interest, this is huge.

It's now official. This morning (U.S. time) in Japan, a press conference was held announcing Pride has been sold to the Fertitta Brothers who are the main owners of the UFC. UFC Promoter Dana White was in attendance. They will keep both promotions separate safe for a megashow every now and then (or once a year) with dream matches taking place.

There will be unified rules (UFC rules) and the Pride weight divisions will be changed to match UFC's. They said reigning Pride heavyweight champ Fedor Emelianeko (sorry for the likely mispelling) will be under contract.
