UFC 63 Results and Discussion

For the UFC 63 pay-per-view which is on as we speak, let's get some discussion going amongst the MMA fans around here.

Thanks to MMAWeekly.com for the live coverage, here are the results so far...

-Tyson Griffin def. David Lee by submission (rear naked choke) at 1:50 of Round 1

-Jorge Gurgel def. Danny Abbadi by split decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29)

-Eddie Sanchez def. Mario Neto by KO at 0:17 of Round 2

-Roger Huerta def. Jason Dent by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

-Joe Lauzon def. Jens Pulver by TKO (strikes) at 0:48 of Round 1

-Rashad Evans def. Jason Lambert by TKO (strikes) at 2:22 of Round 2

I got to say that's a pretty big upset by Joe Lauzon. I've heard UFC was going to push Pulver hard after he returned and now he goes and gets knocked out early in the first round.

Rashad Evans is slowly but surely putting together one nice UFC career. How long before he goes for a title shot?

Re: UFC 63 Results and Discussion

the joe luzan victory suprised me but the others went how i thought/hoped they would.

Evans looked real solid, looks like he could be in a championship fight soon

Mike swick well that was an ugly win looked like he gassed from never fighting a round 2 or 3

suprised kenny florian has a title fight for the lieghtweight belt next month??

First round saw a phenomenal performance by Penn. Hughes couldn't take him down and got tired doing so. Standing, Penn rocked Hughes with several punches. Hughes knows he's in a tough fight. Penn accidentally thumbed Hughes in the eye which caused a delay. First round 10-9 Penn.

Incredible round two. Hughes finally got Penn down and connected with some elbows and was winning the round. Penn reversed and got Hughes' back and his flexibility and talent is off the charts. He had a triangle on and Hughes escaped right at the end of the round. 20-18 Penn.
Wow, Penn looks like he has the upper hand going into round 3.

Hughes needs a knockout.

Re: UFC 63 Results and Discussion

Matt Hughes WINS and RETAINS the UFC Welterweight Championship due to referee stoppage with strikes. Penn was said to be gassed in the third round (from all the submission attempts in the 2nd) and couldn't handle the pounding from Hughes.

Sounded like a great fight.
