Carano, ‘Cyborg’ meet in biggest women’s fight

Gina Carano’s looks and fighting style have combined to make her the face of women’s MMA.
Her fights have always stolen the show when she has been featured on Showtime and CBS, turning her into one of the most recognizeable stars in the sport.
Brazilian sensation Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos has put together a series of ferocious knockouts since her arrival in the U.S.
It all has set the stage for the most highly-anticipated women’s bout in MMA history.
Carano (7-0) and Santos (7-1) will battle for the Strikeforce women’s 145-pound championship in the main event of “Strikeforce: Carno vs. Cyborg” on Saturday at 10:30 p.m. on Showtime at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. It’s the first time two women will be featured in the main event of a Showtime card.
“I went from being called a little pet project to me and Cyborg in the main event,” Carano said. “That in itself has just been the biggest achievement.”
The fight pits Carano’s technical skills against Santos raw aggression.
“I think we both have strength and technique in different areas,” Carano said. “How that plays out? We’ll see.”
The rest of the card has gone through many transformations because of injuries and other problems.

Just realized I have free Showtime for 3 months ...which means I can watch this bout...anyone else watching?

I didn't watch it real time because I don't get Showtime but I have seen it and damn, Cyborg steam rolled Carano I new Cyborg may be a little better and had a very good chance at winning but that was a domination

See, I did not see it that way...when they were standing up...Carano was moving around the ring/cage/whatever pretty good, and she certainly got in her share of strikes...

But on the ground, she did not look good at all...she even had Cyborg down once, and stepped away from it...though she did power out of a few submission hold attempts..

Once Cyborg got her pin near the cage...she did pound the crap out of Carano though...

Really though, Carano was a 2 to 1 underdog going in and you can see why...Cyborg should be fighting in the men's division...

now MMA has a problem because Cyborg is not going to have the fan base that Carano has/had...

I was about to mention the fanbase thing becasue here's the thing, if you read like an article on a female fighter there is usually a photoshoot to follow invovling small dresses or swimsuits. I don't mind it I will gladly look through if it's Gina or I forgot who the other really hot fighter is, but with Cyborg is feature you aint getting that photoshoot lol. Is that right? No. Is it a fact. Yes

There is a difference between acknowledging the fact that Cyborg was clearly never in trouble in this fight, and the fact that Carano did make it a fight...

While standing, I though Carano had better movement and boxing skills, and all it takes is landing a solid punch, or a combination etc...I am suprised she did not try to use a kick to keep Cyborg at a distance...

Frankly, coming into the bout I though Carano would be more 'prissy" than she turned out to be...I thought she would give when Cyborg almost twisted that arm of hers in at a weird angle...but the girl showed she was a though, even if not in Cyborg's league right now...

Totally a fact. Cyborg deserves better. But let's be real...girls don't want to grow up to look like Cyborg...they rather look like Carano ...and guys will always root more for the Carano's of this world...

Cyborg though was nice enough to thank Gina a few times afterwards for getting in the cage with her...I thought that showed class on her side...
