World Series trivia

So who's up for a little World Series trivia?

Get the question right and you can ask the next question.

Here's an easy one to get things started off:
Name the two teams who played in the first, modern-era World Series.

Re: World Series trivia

i hate when people use the "modern era" terminology ...... as i never know what that means

through my research, it seems it may mean 1977 ..... which was Yankees vs Dodgers

Re: World Series trivia

Nope, sorry simon. The so-called "modern era" starts far earlier than 1977.

Nope, still not early enough. You're off by several decades.

That's the one - except it was the Boston Pilgrims (they became the Red Sox later). Okay, ask away!

Re: World Series trivia

I believe it's Lou Brock of the Cardinals, who hit .391 in 87 career World Series at-bats.

Ah, okay, I see... right franchise, wrong guy. It's Pepper Martin, who hit .418 in 60 plate appearances.

Re: World Series trivia

Okay, my question: 24 pitchers have won the World Series MVP 26 times, making them far and away the position that has had the highest number of different players win the honor. Which position is second in that category? Bit of a tricky one, and looking at the World Series MVP Award winners thread won't help.
