Re: World Series trivia

Right answer, but slightly wrong at the same time. There have been 7 third basemen win the MVP - Molitor was a DH when he won the honors. He's the only DH ever to win the MVP. The trick is that outfielders have won also 7 MVP awards, but only 6 players have won it, with Reggie Jackson winning two MVP awards.

World Series Most Valuable Player Award on Baseball Almanac
that's where i got my info .... it lists Molitor as 3B/DH

i suppose it would be the same if Ortiz wins it and plays 1B for a game in Colorado (not sure that's what Molitor did, but Ortiz would probably be listed as 1B/DH)

ill be right back with my question

Re: World Series trivia

Okay, hey, that's cool. MLB.com has him as a DH though. Either way, third base is the correct answer - that's the most important part.

Heh heh, sorry dude.

Don Larsen threw the only perfect game in World Series history on October 8, 1956. Who was the losing pitcher in that game?

Sal Maglie

Maglie had a good comeback season for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1956 (who won the NL pennant by one game over Milwaukee and two games over Cincinnati), going 13-5 with 2.89 ERA. He finished second to Don Newcombe in the first balloting for the Cy Young Award, and was also second to Newcombe in MVP balloting.
