2007 MLB No Playoff Chance Teams

It's August 5th, and there's about two months left in the regular season. Barring a massive and unforseen win streak, these teams are the ones who have no shot at making it to October.

AL

Baltimore Orioles
Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Chicago White Sox
Kansas City Royals
Oakland Athletics
Texas Rangers

NL

Florida Marlins
Washington Nationals
St. Louis Cardinals
Houston Astros
Cincinnati Reds
Pittsburgh Pirates
San Francisco Giants

That leaves 9 teams in the NL playing for 4 playoff spots.

In the AL, it's 8 teams for 4 playoff spots.

Anybody disagree?

The Blue Jays are only five games out of the wild card.

Yeah, that list looks about right to me. Toronto's hanging onto wild-card hopes, and they've even won 3 straight.

Don't pull the plug on St. Louis just yet. From what I saw of the Mariners the past two days, even though they are right in the mix, forget them too.

Re: 2007 MLB No Playoff Chance Teams

Looks like legend was right, the Cardinals are just as much in the race for the central as any other team.

The division races in the AL seem to be set with Boston, Cleveland and Los Angeles safe. The wildcard will be decided between the Yankees, Tigers and Mariners.

In the NL, the Mets seem to be set as far as the division goes. The central still has three teams within one game of the lead (Cubs, Brewers, Cards). The west has four teams within five games (Padres, DBacks, Dodgers, Rockies).

The wild card races in both leagues and the division races in the NL should be fun down the stretch.

Updated as we're two weeks away from the close of the regular season.

The Cardinals and Mariners are out as far as I'm concerned. The Braves probably, too, since they would have so many teams to leap frog for the Wild Card slot.
