ALDS - Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

The Tigers lost today and the Twins won, causing the Tigers to drop the division and take the wild card. That in itself is a major WOWZAS for the Tigers. In any event, they will play their first post-season series since forever against the mighty New York Yankees.

The series will begin Tuesday night at 8pm eastern in New York. Game two will be Wednesday evening at 7pm eastern and game three will be in Detroit on Friday night at 8pm eastern.

My prediction: Yankees in four.

Re: ALDS - Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

Food for though - Detroit just got swept by the Royals, with the Central division title on the line. How the heck are they supposed to compete with the Yankees with so much more at stake? Sorry, I love the job Leyland's done with this team, making them overachieve throughout the season. But the clock's fixin' to strike midnight. New York sweeps the Tigers.

I'm all eager to say: "Yanks sweep Tigers".... but I with Leyland driving this team hard, I think it'll take four, maybe five games for the Yanks to win.

Yanks taking homefield advantage sealed it.

This was a huge break for the Yanks. The Tigers have no chance to win this series - none.

as a tigers fan i'm always hoping they win, but i'm also a realist, and the yankees in four sounds about right

Well game one went pretty much according to plan. Detroit MUST win game two if they want to have any shot.

I, too, am a realist, and although there's nothing I'd like better than to see the Tigs make all the analysts eat their words I wouldn't be surprised at a sweep. However, stranger things have happened, and the Yankees always manage to keep things interesting....'member ALCS 2004?!

lol They'll always have that horrible series hanging over their heads. Even in future generations, people will point to the infamous 2004 ALCS and say "Anything can happen."

Nevertheless, the Tigers will be lucky to take a single game in this series.

Yup, EmpireWF.

With Jeter making contact 5 times a game and Giambi going long to pop some numbers on the scoreboard, I don't think that the Tigers will last long.

Re: ALDS - Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

Game two is underway...1st inning the Yanks have the bases loaded with ARod up and two outs in a scoreless game so far. He swings and misses on the first pitch and fouls the second one back. 0-2...what will happen?

And what do you know? He strikes out LOOKING and gets boo'd for his trouble.

Nice persistance from Verlander though. Still scoreless as the game moves into the 2nd.

Well, Verlander threw some really good pitches there, guys. Two fastballs with great movement, and then a nasty breaking-ball. A-Rod had no chance.

Cool Re: ALDS - Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

Mussina stinks. A couple of years ago in the playoffs, he lost a 6-1 lead to Anaheim. He's not a big game pitcher at all. I hope the Yankees don't re-sign him after this year.

And how about A-Rod?: 1 for 8 in the series. They should DH for him instead of the pitcher.

It goes down 4-3, Tigers.

W:Walker
L:Mussina
S:Jones

A-Rod has not looked impressive all-season long. Did you expect him to make a full 360 recovery, ThePundit?

Re: ALDS - Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

In my opinion, tomorrow night's game will be this playoff series' turning point. Kenny Rogers will really have to be on his game for the Tigers to win, but he'll get some significant help from the playing field dimensions at Comerica Park. Balls have to be hit very squarely to leave the playing area there. There's no such thing as a cheap home run. Now that they have gotten off their personal schneid, the Tigers are due for a breakout game. On the other hand, the Yankees are capable of embarrassing their opponents in any given game. It should be interesting.
