That was a horrible moment for Mets fans for sure....

I don't know what's happened, but somehow a man with an 0-3 record and an 8-something ERA in 9 postseason appearances managed 7-2/3 SHUTOUT innings....it's possible that the Tigers used up their share of miracles for the next ten years last night

But I'm still holding out hope that Bondo can turn on a dime the way Rogers and Verlander have. This is going to be a heluva exciting game, no matter which side of the fence you're on....

Before I vote for Ortiz I would have to look at the roster of the other third place teams to see how their players fared. Actually, if the Yankees lose, I hope Ortiz is the MVP. I am that spiteful.

Well the playoffs don't have an affect on the voting so I doubt it changes the fact Jeter will be named the AL MVP.

I can see Bonderman pitching a great game at home. Come on, it's not like Jaret Wright will revert back to his 1997 form.

Jaret Wright hasn't earned a cent of his contract with the Yankees. At least, Alex Rodriguez made some production over his years in New York and earned about 1/16 of it. Steinbrenner isn't a great business man at all.

I think the fact that he's turned the Yankees into a billion dollar a year business an empire speaks differently.

Big congrats to the ALCS-bound Detroit Tigers. And to think I predicted they'd get swept.

Congrats to the Tigers! The Yanks let down their fans again... The Yanks played like it was Spring Training... disgusting.

It is true that he created the Yankees into a monopolistic empire.

I should really change my post to "team owner" since he stinks in that field. He made his money in the ship building industry and like most people he grabs the first thing he sees. Alex Rodriguez was an interesting adventure but he had trouble playing third base and couldn't handle the pressure from the NY critics. I say build a franchise around Jeter and not every other player in the MLB.

Re: ALDS - Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

The big talk tonight during the game was the issue of team dynamic....'member the '98-2000 Yankees? Not too many big egos on those teams, but a bunch of guys who had played together for years, were fantastically good but not all of them hall-of-famers. I mean Brosius, Bernie, O'Neill, Tino....and of course Jeter and Posada. Since then they've been buying players hand over fist, and it hasn't necessarily served them well. I think Steinbrenner had better read a bit more about Billy Beane and his "Moneyball" approach....after all, the A's are in the ALCS and the Yanks are not.

Re: ALDS - Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

The Yankees have created a real monster for themselves by acquiring A-rod. To put it bluntly, he is a real liability for them in postseason play. But, there is almost nothing they can do about it. They're paying him so much money that almost no other team could afford to take him off their hands, no matter how generous the terms might be. As hard to believe as it seems, Cletus Boyer was actually a much better postseason third baseman for them back in the day, and he cost the Yankees very, very little. It seems to me that their only sensible option for the future would be to carry two third basemen. A-rod, who plays all right during the regular season, could help them get into the playoffs, and the other guy could take his place for league championship play and the World Series.

Re: ALDS - Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees

Even if they did find a team to take A-Rod, he has a no trade clause. So if he doesn't want to go, he won't. And from all accounts, he doesn't want to go anywhere else.

But you guys are right, the Yanks have dug themselves a whole from all the big "star" players they have. There's no real chemistry or small ball-mind type of play. The players like Brosius, O'Neil, Martinez, Williams, they've all been moved for the all-stars like A-Rod, Sheffield, Giambi, Damon, etc.
