The guy who messed up the tag-up in the US-Japan game just missed a Mexico HR off the foul pole. Ruled it a double. This one was clearly a terrible call. Foul pole paint was on the ball. Favoritism or simple error?

My guess is.... Bud Selig wanted to make this classic as close to the regular MLB playoff series... So to copy the infamous 2005 ALCS ( White Sox v. Angels), he recruited another umpire to make some rotten calls. I feel sorry for Mexico.

Don't feel sorry for Mexico, feel sorry for Japan! A Mexico win eliminates the U.S., and by scoring Mexico had been eliminated, so that bad call once again hurts the Japanese team!

Boy, was that a terrible call or what????? Even if Davidson is incapable, how could none of the other umps on the crew overrule that one???

No kidding. You could clearly see that it was a home run. Wasn't even as close as the tag-up call!

And this is why Davidson usually calls minor league games and was one of the many umpires MLB let go during the umpire's strike a few years back.

Even the USA manager, Buck Showalter, admited to the ESPN commentators that it was indeed a home run....

When the ball bounced back into the field some one hundred feet, the umpire still thought it had hit the padded wall! He must have assumed they were padding the wall with Flubber.
