| Dominican Republic Advances The Dominican Republic became the first team to advance to the semifinal round of the World Baseball Classic today. They beat Venezuela 2-1, but man was it a close one.
With two out, the tying run was walked over to first. Venezuela brought in a pinch runner. Next up was Ramon Hernandez hit what should've been the final out, but Tejada booted it and Hernandez reached on the error. Another pinch runner came in. The catcher Castillo nearly picked the runner off at first, but he JUST made it back safely. Then the pitcher Sanchez walked the bases loaded before getting Edgardo Alfonzo to fly out to end the game. What a finish!
The win improved their record to 2-1 and eliminated the 1-2 Venezuelans. The winner of tomorrow's Cuba vs. Puerto Rico game will be the other team to advance out of Pool 2. |
