| World Baseball Classic Rules So far, the rules of the World Baseball Classic appear to be pretty close to traditional MLB rules, with a couple of notable exceptions.
The first is the pitch count / pitcher use rules. According to the WBC's official website, a pitcher cannot throw more than 65 pitcher in a 1st round game, 80 pitches in a 2nd round game, and 95 pitches in the semifinals and finals. Plus, if he throws 50 pitches, he must rest for at least 4 days. And if he tosses 30 balls in one game, or if he pitches in back-to-back games, then he needs at least one day of rest.
And the other one is the mercy rules. If a team is down by 10 after batting in at least 7 innings or by 15 after batting in at least 5, then the game is over and that team loses.
Am I correct in saying that those are the two major departures from the Official MLB Baseball Rules? And what do you guys think of these guidelines? I for one am not in favor of the mercy rule being in effect. Hey, never count out a comeback, right? |
