WBC Statistical Leaders - Hitting

Keep in mind that only Pool A has played.

Runs:
6 - Nobuhiko Matsunaka, JPN

Hits:
5 - Seven different players are currently tied

Doubles:
3 - Nobuhiko Matsunaka, JPN; Yung Chi Chen, TPE; Jong Beom Lee, KOR

Triples:
1 - Four different players are currently tied.

Home Runs:
3 - Seung-Yeop Lee, KOR

RBI:
7- Seung-Yeop Lee, KOR & Tsuyoshi Nishioka, JPN

Stolen Bases:
3 - Tsuyoshi Nishioka, JPN

Batting Average:
.556 - Jong Beom Lee, KOR

Let's try to keep this updated as the other pools begin play.

Clearly, there are three main candidates for the Pool A MVP - Seung-Yeop Lee of South Korea and Nobuhiko Matsunaka & Tsuyoshi Nishioka of Japan. I've got to give it to Seung-Yeop Lee for that big game winning home run today against Japan. Anyone disagree?

Does any major league team have Lee?

No, at one point there were rumors that he would wind up with the Marlins, but the WBC website says that he's going to play in Japan next year (no team was listed). By the way, did you know that Lee holds the Asian single-season home run record? According to Japanesebaseball.com, he belted 56 dingers while playing in the Korean Baseball Organization in 2003.

Re: WBC Statistical Leaders - Hitting

The problem with leaders in this kind of tournament is that not all teams play the same amount of games.
Take Paname for example, they'll play only 3 games. Any panamenian player will have a hard time winning any batting category against others with more chances at the plate.
I think MVP is what we should look for in this WBC.
