It's about seven months before signing day and the University of Wisconsin football team already has a quarterback for the class of 2010.
On Monday, the Badgers received a nonbinding oral commitment from Joseph Brennan, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound senior-to-be from Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill, N.J.
Brennan had offers from 13 high-major programs, his coach Rick Brown said. Brennan chose UW over Miami, Rutgers and Pittsburgh.
Last season, Brennan, who couldn't be reached for comment, threw for 2,438 yards and 25 touchdowns in a multiple formation offense. Camden Catholic finished 9-2 and reached the state semifinals. Although Brennan has the build of a drop-back passer, Brown thinks he deserves more credit for his athleticism. He runs the 40-yard dash in the 4.6-second range and Brown plans to incorporate his running ability into the offense more next season.
"He's not the classic drop-back quarterback in that mode," Brown said in references to Brennan's size. "He is the classic drop-back quarterback in that he can take five steps, seven steps and make every throw there is."
