| Stopping spread is top priority One of the most frustrating parts of the season last year for Wisconsin coach Brett Bielema was watching his defense struggle to stop the latest college football craze--the spread offense. Its not going to get any easier. Michigan hired a spread guru, and other Big 10 teams that don't use the spread are tinkering with the idea. Several of next season's non-conference opponents also use it. So over the winter Bielema sent some of his assistants on a road trip to pick up pointers from defensive coaches who have had success stopping the spread offense.
