I heard a story today in church(pastor is a big sports fan) about Scott Tolzien, the Badgers quarterback.
It seems there is a six year old boy who has been diagnosed with a form of cancer. He is seriously ill. He is going to the UW hospital in Madison for surgery and chemo treatments. The young boy, Jaxon, is a big football fan and is crazy about quarterbacks. His family decided it would be a great thing if they could get a helmet autographed by the Badgers' quarterbacks.
When they went to pick the autographed helmet up, they were met by Coach Bielema who had an inspirational note to give Jaxon along with the helmet. The family was invited to watch the team practice. There Jaxon met the team and especially met quarterback Scott Tolzien. The two have struck up a friendship, and call each other before and after each game. When Scott asks how he did, Jaxon isnt afraid to let him have it and tell him exactly what he did wrong. In addition, Scott visits him in the hospital when he comes for his treatments.
Scott would rather that all of this info wouldnt become public, but apparently his roommate doesnt feel the same way.
Jaxon has a 50% chance of his cancer being cured.
Scott Tolzien finds inspiration from the way this man faces life.
In these days when we hear of so many young athletes going in the wrong direction, I find Scott Tolzien inspirational.
Thanks to both of these two for reminding us once again what is important in life.
