West Virginia Big East favorites

In a recent poll of Big East media outlets and reporters, the West Viginia Mountaineers were predicted to repeat as conference champions in 2006. WVU, you may recall, went 11-1 overall in 2005, was 7-0 in the Big East and beat Georgia 38-35 in the Sugar Bowl. What kind of season should we expect out of Rich Rodriguez's team this year? Can they live up to the hype?

I sure hope so. Last year was so exciting. We Won The Sugar Bowl!!! Our state didn't get to celebrate. Randy has continued to improve.
Rich Rodriguez is the couch we should of had a long time ago. I worry about the Big East, I don't understand how or why other teams can move to another series. I don't understand football the way you guys do but I do understand wining. When the season gets started I'll probaby be acting like I do know what I'm talking about.

Re: West Virginia Big East favorites

The teams that left the Big East did so for much the same reason a NASCAR driver jumps from one team to another, Gma, and that's the almighty dollar. But its their loss - the Big East still has their automatic BCS bid, and some of those other teams are struggling in a packed conference. WVU definitely was an impressive team last season; they had a lot of young talent and I for one am sure looking forward to seeing how guys like Slaton do with an extra year under their belts!

Re: West Virginia Big East favorites

I just read in one of the other threads about a small school playing a larger one. Tickled me WVU is going to Play Marshall, a small in state college again this year, I think it is going to be called the front yard brawl, The game with Pitt is the backyard For us West Virginians there is no greater pleasure then putting a whipping on Pitt.

The WVU - Pitt Backyard Brawl is definitely one of the better NCAA football rivalry games. Marshall's had some success in recent years, but they shouldn't be much of a threat right now. Now back when they had Chad Pennington, Randy Moss or Byron Leftwich, it would've been a different story I think.

Re: West Virginia Big East favorites

Ah the season i've been waiting for . Coach Rod is a great coach, but he has always said if he doesnt think he can make a dyansty here he would look around. So i hope this is a good year for us. Theres four games that worry me and 3 of them people over look. Marshall, if you havent gone to either school you just wouldnt understand, in a rivialry game any team can win. Maryland look at the history the games are always competitive even if one team is hugley superior. Louisville for obvious reason like Bush and Brohm. And then pitt as stated before this is prob the most underated rilvary in College sports the hatred between fans, is far less worse then how much the teams hate eachother and thats hard to beat. If talent wins your then left with a coin flip with only one and thats lousville. I dont know lousiville's schedule but wvu and lousiville have to be national title contenders cause of being in the Big East. I hope tho its WVU that comes out

Marshall, yeah, anyone can win in a rivalry game to be sure. But WVU is the vastly superior team and SHOULD win that one. Louisville is going to be a tough contest. I haven't seen the WVU schedule yet -- where is the Louisville game at this year?

wvu's toughes home game is against rutgers in their last game. Lousiville is away, and remember what happened last year wen they came to motown,, 18 point lead for lousiville turned into a 6 td day for slanton and a 3 ot lost for lousiville. They want revenge, and you still got the pitt game thats away too
