Slaton going pro

Looks like WVU RB Steve Slaton had a change of heart - he WILL enter the 2008 NFL Draft.

"I called the NFL about two weeks ago, and they told me that I was assessed as a second-round selection," an Associated Press article quotes Slaton as saying in a statement. "I am as versatile a running back as there is in the draft. There are a lot of running backs going out early, but I believe I have the speed and the ability to get drafted higher than the level where I am projected."

Yeah the NFL was only pulling your leg when they told you second round
I don't blame him for opting for the draft (potential injuries play a big part) but come on he is not a franchise player.

Re: Slaton going pro

I'm sure part of it has to be the way his role at WVU declined during the season, no doubt.

Re: Slaton going pro

Lefty I have no doubt he is a superb college RB and remember him running all over UGA. I do question his value in the pros and think the NFL told him the same. You may be right about the diminished role he played this year and possibly next. I see him filling a role very similar to Norwood and the Falcons - hardly 1st round material.

I simply question his I'm going higher than what the NFL says I will attitude.

I agree - especially as deep as this draft is at running back. I could see him slipping to Round #3. He should have come back to school.

Yep I agree. Look at this list of RB's available this year. I can see a team getting a pretty good RB in the 4th or later rounds. I think the average number of RB's taken in the 1st round is 8 (+ -).

#3 rated RB coming out of high school, ran 73 times for 627 yards and 6 TDs as a freshman last year. He's a stud in the making.

Re: Slaton going pro

Wow 8.5 yds a pop - hope WVU gets some tv time I'd like to see him run.

Edit: I just went over to Rivals and watched some video - he is a stud. How did WVU get him out of Florida (UF, UM, Fla St) and I also saw USC and Bama offered. That was a huge catch for WVU.
