WVU suing Rich Rodriguez

WVU has filed a lawsuit against former head coach Rich Rodriguez.

According to the Associated Press, "The lawsuit, filed in Monongalia County Circuit Court, says the university believes Rodriguez doesn't intend to abide by the contract... The buyout clause requires Rodriguez to pay $4 million to WVU over a two-year period, with one-third of the total due 30 days after his employment's termination. His resignation was effective Dec. 19." Interesting development. If the guy did intend to stiff the university, I hope they nail him to the wall.

Re: WVU suing Rich Rodriguez

When the Browns were moved to Baltmore I would gladly have sued the owner. Rod's interviewing and announcing his exit before the Jan 2 bowl game was a sucker punch to the team and the State.

I think Rod should be forced to pay the $4 million. I hope the team wins the Jan 2 bowl game and go on, under a new coach, to win a national title in 2008-9

The money is one of the justification that were used for the move. I think the way the exit was handled has damaged the character of the coach. Rod will find that money does not make up for the damaged character.

This is as bad of conduct of any of the coaches IMHO. He knew it would have to be paid and should have negotiated that Michigan pay West Virginia the buyout as part of the deal. If he didn't he needs to man up and do the right thing. He is setting a terrible exaple for players on both teams.

i honestly believe we will be better off without rod. He says we didn't give him everything in the contract we said we would. well he didn't sign the contract till sept. so he gave them 3 months to complete the conditions, which some call for building construction. How can i build an addition or a brand new building in three months. He wanted to leave but he wants everyone to think wvu was in the wrong.

Re: WVU suing Rich Rodriguez

Well, I guess Rodriguez's argument is that WVU didn't live up to their contract. The thing is, if he felt they were in breach, he was required to notify them in writing of this. Plus he didn't seek permission to even talk to Michigan. It's bush-league all the way around on his part. I sure hope Michigan knows what kind of coach they're getting in this guy.

They should sue him for the $4 million and damages to the team. Whether anybody wants to believe it, he set the team back. I think colleges should just sign coaches to 1 year deals. That way there is no sneaking around. If either side doesn't like it, just don't resign.

You are correct in him settin back the team.

1 year deals would be the best way to go.

the problem isn't wvu, ive said before, you cant expect a school to live up to a contract obligation that goes threw 2013 in only its first three months of a contract, Rich is trying to make it look like the schools fault, so he could feel ok about it. But im not a conspiracy nut, but look how many carries slaton had in the pitt game, much easier if wvu doesnt win for him to be able to leave

That's my take, too. He's just trying to make excuses to justify his actions, and I'm glad the university's not gonna let him get away with it.
