The third-ranked Mountaineers of West Virginia open their 2007 season hoping to win the Big East and maybe run the table for a shot at the BCS Championship. Step one will require Pat White, Steve Slaton and company to upend the Western Michigan Broncos of the MAC. I think they can do it, though WMU isn't exactly a pushover of an opponent. What are your predictions?

itll be a crazy day of tailgaiting this parents weekend. I think youll see more passing then you expect, show the nation that they'll be able to pass when it's needed, and they will also show why they are the best rushing team in the nation. Should be a good game to watch as a mountaineer fan.

As I suspected, Western Michigan is keeping it kind of close, 28-14 at the half.

The Mountaineers pulled away, winning 62-24. According to the AP, "Pat White threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores, and Steve Slaton scored four times in No. 3 West Virginia's 62-24 rout of Western Michigan on Saturday... Slaton, the nation's fourth-leading rusher a year ago, ran for 109 yards as the Mountaineers broke the game open with two scores in a 1:15 span early in the third quarter."

The Mountaineers had 7 total rushing touchdowns (by four different players). Slaton and White had one amazing game. Putting a 60-spot up on the scoreboard has got to improve their confidence.
