WVU pass defense

Last season, WVU had the 109th ranked pass defense in division one. This season, it sounds like improving that unit has become a priority (thank goodness). From what this Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article says, Coach Rod is playing with the lineups, adding new wrinkles to the scheme, and basically doing whatever it takes to improve the secondary and the pass rush. What would you say is the one thing that needs to improve most for this unit to become more successful?

Re: WVU pass defense

they are switching to a cover 2 i belive. I think that culd help, but there always really soft, over the middle. I hope they fix it. Also theres a member on this board that wont be happy. But i think there going to use Eric Wicks more in coverage, last year he was used to blitz alot i think had like six sacks last year. So will see how he does not blitzing as much.

Boy, I'm glad to hear it. That 3-3-5 garbage just wasn't working. They definitely need to put more pressure on the passer. It doesn't matter if a guy's the best cover corner in the world, there's only so long he can hang with a wideout. That's not to let the secondary off the hook - I think there's plenty of blame to go around - but I'll definitely be happy to see them playing a more traditional defense.
