The West Virginia Mountaineers have qualified for the NIT championship game, beating Mississippi State 63-62 with a buzzer beater yesterday. According to the AP, "Darris Nichols hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lift West Virginia... Nichols finished with 17 points and Frank Young added 16 to help the Mountaineers (26-9) advance to the NIT finals for the first time since winning the title in 1942." They will face Clemson. Predictions for this one?

NEW YORK (AP) -- It had been 65 years since West Virginia won any postseason championship.

Now the Mountaineers have a NIT title to ease some of the disappointment of missing the NCAA tournament this season.

Frank Young scored 24 points, including six 3-pointers, and De'Sean Butler added 20 points to help West Virginia beat Clemson 78-73 in the National Invitation Tournament final Thursday night.

The Mountaineers thought they had a good case to receive an NCAA bid, with a 9-7 mark in the tough Big East and a victory over UCLA. But they didn't make the cut.

"It's been a lot of fun to play in this tournament, and all the emotions just built up as it went along," Young said. "Of course we wanted to be in the NCAA tournament, but to win this tournament, all the joy is still there. We're still happy about finishing our season with a win"

Good for them, I'm glad they won. But I can't help but wonder how far this team would've gone in the NCAAs.

ya know i was having this convo with my father last night, i think they would of won one game in the big tourny. But im glad they played in the Nit cause this young team we have got alot of expierence that they wouldnt of gotten via the NCAA tourny
