Alabama and Coach Rod, Bama fans speak

Yes I'm an Alabama fan but unlike most, I have all of my teeth and do not have a gun rack in the back window of my car. Point of the post is this, there have been comments that I want EVERYONE to see being made by Bama fans on forums. These comments have been made because Coach Rod has been named a "maybe" as the next coach in Tuscaloosa. I can only wonder what he would say about that job if he were to see what they are saying about him being the next coach there. Please keep in mind that these are pretty bad comments and do not reflect all Alabama fans. The fact that they were made speaks volumes for the population of the state that I call home though. I have never been a fan of our history or a lot of the negative past that is still alive but to see them say these things really made it concrete that the "old south" is not dead and racism is far from being gone in this state. Its hard to be proud of being from Alabama after seeing things like this said about a man that could bring the Alabama football team back to the national championship team that we once were. Again, what would he tell Mal Moore if when an offer was made if he saw these comments that are being made at his expense?

(links removed)

There are more on the boards but if I sit here all day posting the links this thread will be 40 pages long. All I can say is that the minute the statement was made, "lets change the team name to the brick layers", Coach Rod shouldnt have a hard time making a decision. At this point, even as a Bama fan, I would rather get some pop warner in here to coach the Tide instead of watching Rod get racist insults and comments thrown at him the first time he wins a game that our "expert" fans think he should have won.

For the record, I was born in Alabama and have been an Alabama fan since I was able to talk. Like I've told other people in this state, just because I'm from here doesnt me I have to be a redneck insult to the human race. I guess because I was born here and raised in another state, I see things for what they are while others here act like these "1950s comments and ways of thinking" are normal. Anyway, I just thought I'd share this with you guys and I really hope that someone here has contacts that can share this information with Coach Rod. Also, for what its worth, I was pulling for WV this year. I thought it was going to be WV vs OS in the National Title game.....a QB rushing for 300 yards in a single game?!?!?! What more do I ahve to say about THAT. It was a pleasure watch your team play this year. I'm going to end this post now because I know I can talk alot..lol. Just take a look at those links and please, post your thoughts here. Again, if anyone has contacts in the WV offices, make sure someone in the right place sees what these idiots are saying.

Hi jagpoag, welcome to GoTeamsGo.

Not really sure about your post. You're concerned by what you see as inappropriate comments on another forum... so you want to make sure our forum members see them? Sorry, that's not what we're here for.

Feel free to offer your comments and opinions on the people/staff/teams involved but please don't link to what's going on at other forums.

Re: Alabama and Coach Rod, Bama fans thoughts

Sorry Mountaineers about the Auburn fan above who just came on your site and tried to run Bama fans down but we have to put up with their ignorance all the time. First let me say I certainly feel for you right now, with the uncertainity of this coaching search and if Coach Rod does leave WVU, I for one hope you get an even better coach. Secondly I have been on the Bama forums for over a week now and I have not seen anyone say a negative thing about Coach Rod except some of these Auburn fans who hope we end up with a high school coach so then maybe they can continue to beat us every year. Almost everyone would love to see Coach Rod at Bama but there are a few who still want Saban or Spurrier and say they don't want Coach Rod but even they have never said anything negative about the man. Please believe that not all people in Alabama have no class, just Aubbies, and we hope the best for WVU and their fans.

Re: Alabama and Coach Rod, Bama fans thoughts

I hope he changes his mind but again money will talk. I thank you for all the good things you said about WV I am a true fan and love my mountaineers. I dont want him to go but on the other hand I dont think we will have a hard time finding a replacement with the young team we have coming back I attended the WV and Southern Florida game we were really banged up no excuses but white and slaton are both fighting some very nagging injuries. With Louiville we did not play 4 quarters and you are not going to win mant big games like that. Hey thanks again for taking time to answer. I have emailed all my friends and went to the coaches email and told them to listen to what is being said about Coach Rod. I just wish I could have got all your story I feel some of it was omitted for some reason. Take Care and hang in there maybe we can get Mike Shula How was he.

This is so true! We do have some ignorant Auburn fans,I guess i would fall into the catagory you mentioned, that is still waiting on Steve Spurrier, but believe me if Coach Rod is what we get I will have to support it because i'm a true fan. Now bringing back the topic of Auburnites, they are not true fans, when Auburn is having a losing season (like usual) you can't hear anything out of them, but granted when they throw togather a couple of good games they are the most roguish fans in America. They have no class and no sportsmanship. Thanx impart to thei roguish coach. Quote me if you want but evryone knows i'm telling the truth. Can I get an Amen from the bama fans.

Re: Alabama and Coach Rod, Bama fans thoughts

From news reports:
Quote:
Alabama athletic director Mal Moore met for 90 minutes late yesterday afternoon with West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez and his wife, Rita -- an indication that the Rodriguez family is taking seriously this potential departure from their home state and alma mater.

The meeting was characterized by Rodriguez's agent, Mike Brown, as "informal discussions."

"Nothing substantial came out of it," Brown said.

Alabama is expected to make Rodriguez a contract offer to replace the fired Mike Shula... a deal that would roughly double the $1.1 million Rodriguez made this season

"We had a good, informal talk with coach Moore for about an hour and a half," Rodriguez told reporters at the hotel, a group that included The Birmingham News.

Good questions. Not sure who the replacement would be. If Coach Rod doesn't take his staff with him, maybe WVU could hire from within. If not, then what about Ohio's Frank Solich, Michigan's defensive coordinator English, or maybe Navy's Paul Johnson?

Re: Alabama and Coach Rod, Bama fans thoughts

I just wish Coach Rod would man up and tell us the truth. I feel for the kids that play their hearts out every week. Seems like they are getting jerked around. I think next year is going to be a great year for the Mountaineers. So just tell us already so we can move on.

Re: Alabama and Coach Rod, Bama fans thoughts

Welcome to GoTeamsGo, melro, and thanks for joining us. I agree with you completely - Coach, if you're going to accept their offer, then just GO already and let WVU start looking for your replacement. You know, at this point I almost hope he does leave, just because I'm tired of him pulling this stuff every offseason. The Mountaineers have the talent to contend for a National Title next year. Why in the world would he want to leave that? Oh, right... money.

Re: Alabama and Coach Rod, Bama fans thoughts

I agre with melro, just step up and tell the truth Coach. We will be unhappy with a leaving decision but atleast it won't be another coach being suspect in all that he says.
