Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

The biggest rivalry game in the Big East goes down this Thursday as the Pittsburgh Panthers host the West Virginia Mountaineers. In a game like this, records tend to go out the window, but WVU is just so much better that Pitt this season, I'm afraid this one may be a bit of a laugher. Slaton and White have monster games as the Mountaineers embarrass their arch-rivals. What do you think?

Great game so far. Turn on the TV now just to see the replay of the http://www.goteamsgo.com/forum/colle...nt-return.html

That play was just unbelieveable.

It'll be on SportsCenter if you miss the game.

What a wild game so far. 51 points scored in a 27-24 first half that was highlighted by an awesome Panthers punt return by Darrelle Revis. Can't wait for the second half!

Re: Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

What a punt return that kid runs like Barry Sanders and then on that same return was one of the best two for one blocks I've ever seen.

Halfs over, White scores....I've gotta go.

WVU's starting to pull away a little. They're up by 11 going into the fourth quarter.

Re: Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

Pitt went for it on 4th & 8 at the 37. Didn't make it, WVU ball.

I think Pitt's running out of steam. I'll pick WVU to seal the deal on the next series.

45-27 WVU. This one's all but over. Impressive showing for the Mountaineers. Bring on Rutgers!

Re: Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

What a game, WVU definately made the right defensive ajustment at the half.

White isn't a QB, he's a Running Back that know how to throw the ball. WHo's a better RB than Slaton, White is.

Glad WVU won, it will make it that much more impressive when the spank Rutgers.

Re: Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

Not so sure you can say that about White, because man, can he ever throw the ball. Unlike a Vick or a Vince Young, he's a legitimate passing threat. Pitt tried to shut down the run and force WVU to beat them through the air. So what did White do? Throw for something like 150 first quarter yards. He's definitely got to come into next season as the Heisman favorite for '07.

Re: Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

I didn't mean to take anything away from his ability as a QB (QB rating 160.4), but I'd be hard pressed to name another college or NFL QB with more than 1000 rushing yards in 10 games. There are RB's that don't have numbers like White has put up as a rushing QB.

The Hiesman might end up in West Virginia nnext year.

Re: Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

Oh yeah, I agree totally. White is an amazing all-around athlete. And you know, seeing them yesterday only makes the Cardinals loss harder to swallow. If they do go on to beat Rutgers, a lot of people are going to be saying "What If?" in regards to that Louisville game. No question in my mind that, had they gone unbeaten, they would've been playing for the National Title. Defense needs to improve, though. The offense can really put up the points but they can't continue to allow these tit-for-tat shootouts.

Re: Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

WVU made the right defensive ajustment last night, Pitt was shut out in the 2nd half. After last nights game, I now feel more confident than ever that WVU will smoke Rutgers and put an end to all the BCS whining coming out of New Jersey.

I will have to change my Sugar Bowl prediction to ND vs WVU,
unless Army beats ND this weekend

Thanks for these postings. Was unable to watch or hear the game last night. On to Rutgers.

Sounds like WVU finally held off the other team in the 2nd half. Usually they fall apart. Maybe this is a good sign!!!

Re: Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

Welcome to GoTeamsGo, candlebizlady, and thanks for joining us!

Sorry you missed the game. As VaTechNut said, they did a great job with 2nd half defensive adjustments. Pitt was hanging with them in the first two quarters, but the Mountaineers really started pulling away in the third. Panthers D was getting eaten for lunch by the run. Slaton and White each broke several big ones, and Slaton should've had another that was called back for a hold. If they can run like this on Rutgers, whoo-boy, look out!

Re: Backyard Brawl - WVU vs. Pitt

like everyweek im very impressed with our offense, our only big lost for next year is the all american center dan mozes. So i look forward to the offense next year. The defense however seems to be gelling a little. Theres alot of freshmen and sophmores on defense so i hope they come in strong next year.

I think WVU needs to find Pat White a very good QB coach maybe send him to the manning camp for the summer. But if the boy can get accuracy on his deep throws o lord i wont care what kind of def we have next year cause this offense already can score on anyone just by running the ball.
