When Pat White left West Virginia for the NFL, coach Bill Stewart said it wasn't a matter of if the Mountaineers would change their offense or even when.
"I feel like some people just had the book on us," Stewart said. "We didn't have an answer for nine in the box. We had to change. We had to become more multiple to win."
The Mountaineers have done just that, evolving from the spread-option offense that White ran so well to a high-powered passing attack that suits the strengths of new quarterback Jarrett Brown.
The 6-foot-4, 223-pound senior from West Palm Beach, Fla., has shown why Stewart was so quick to embrace a change. He opened the season with a 19-of-26, 243-yard effort against Liberty, then really let it fly last week, completing 24 of 31 for 334 yards and four touchdowns in a 35-20 win over East Carolina.
