Gilbert Arenas leaving Wizards?

According to media reports, Wizards G Gilbert Arenas has announced that he will become a free agent following the conclusion of the 2007-08 season. Arenas, who negotiates all his own contracts, is quoted as saying that it was "a smarter business decision to play next season, opt out and then be able to sign a long-term deal that is going to keep me in one place... I'm not looking at anything else. It's just business. If something happens where they don't want me or they're going in a different direction, I can look elsewhere. But my intentions are not to leave."

So will next season be Arenas's last as a Washington Wizard?

I say yes, he will be Wizard.....His comments is him trying to gain leverage.

The bottom line with NBA free agents is that they can make the most money staying with their present team because their salaries are not counted against the cap (most of it, anyway).

So as long as the Wizards offer him more than other team, my guess is he'll stay....

I would like the Cavs to make a serious run at him. They had great games against him, now maybe they can get him to help them. They will have a lot of cap space when the contracts of Jones, Marshall, and others expire, I think. I just don't know it will be enough, but I think he could help the Cavs get to the next level.

Arenas is an amazing talent, but a head case. I don't want him anywhere NEAR the Cavs. Or the Celtics.

Naw, he's not a head case...he has a massive ego and that's different. A headcase is like the goalie who skates naked around the ice after a practice...Arenas is in the mold of Ocho Cinco or TO...

I think he is a great player and any team would want him. Could you imagine a team with Arenas and LeBron on it.

98% of these guys go where they can make 1 penny more than the next highest contract offer. Very few take less bucks for a chance of a ring.

Sometimes guys very late in their careers do it - like Gary Payton and Karl Malone did, but not when they're in their prime.
