Washington State signs five recruits
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) -- Washington State signed five high school seniors, including the son of former NBA star Mychal Thompson, to national letters of intent Wednesday, coach Tony Bennett said. Klay Thompson, Marcus Capers, Michael Harthun, James Watson and Nick Witherill will join the ninth-ranked Cougars next season. Washington State is in the middle of a basketball renaissance sparked by last year's surprising 26-8 record in Bennett's rookie season as coach. That is paying off with a higher quality of recruits.
"My hope is we did capitalize on what happened last year," Bennett said. "In the past we couldn't have beat out some of the schools we beat to get these kids."
