Cool Re: Redskins' Quarterback Campbell Prepares

Getting Campbell ready to contribute in 2006 will not be easy. For the sixth straight year -- dating from his freshman season at Auburn -- he is being required to learn a new offense. He is working with his sixth quarterbacks coach and, with the hiring of Al Saunders from the Kansas City Chiefs in January, his sixth offensive coordinator. While the terminology of Coach Joe Gibbs's and Saunders's offenses are similar, the requirements of the quarterbacks and receivers this season will be quite different.

I think this kid is preparing to be a future coach rather than a QB...six offenses in six years...wow...

Wow is right. I can't imagine expectations will be too high, given the circumstances. What does everyone think of his NFL future?

Campbell's got talent but youre gonna have to be patient with him, if youre gonna jump all over him when he misses 2 or 3 passes his rookie year ala the way everyone does with Eli Manning then you might want to skip the next 2 'Skins seasons.

Re: Redskins' Quarterback Campbell Prepares

Totally different situation. Campbell wasn't a first round pick, doesn't have quite as much media attention hounding him, and didn't alienate just about everybody who calls themselves an NFL fan right off the bat by refusing to play in San Diego (although that has since died down, and the kid is at least starting to live and die on his own merits). I'm just saying that a lot of the pressure Eli was under as a rook was his own fault, you know? Plus he carries the Manning name, itself an added burden. There was no question he was going to be under a microscope. Campbell won't have to deal with that kind of stuff, at least not to the degree Eli did.

Re: Redskins' Quarterback Campbell Prepares

If refusing to play in San Diego alienates every NFL fan then the NFL fan has to look at himself hard. If Eli would have gone to San Diego, he would be Drew Brees back up just like Rivers. Eli has more respect for himself than that. The Chargers are the Marlins of football...they love those high draft picks but just dont like paying them. I dont blame Eli one bit for wanting to play for a PROFESSIONAL football organization. Its Eli's life here not the "fans." Why not do whats best for you? Its also best for the NFL too to not have the top QB in the draft in a contract dispute with a city more interested in suntanning than football. Jason Campbell will be fine if hes allowed to make mistakes and learn from them which quite obviously Eli Manning is not. If I were a top QB in the draft faced with going to pop warner football organizations like the Chargers, Cardinals, Lions, etc. id get a tattoo on my forhead that says "Please Dont Draft Me (Insert Team Name)!!!"

Gotta back up my main man Lefty on the issue of Campbell...right now his situation in Wash is as stress free as it gets...no way he has half the expectations Eli has...and I am a big, big Eli fan, but he put pressure on himself by going to New York....maybe dear old day said, "het , make your move...don't die like I did, getting locked into the Saints"...

Why not just shut up (speaking of Eli, of course, not you Trashed) and thank God you have the opportunity to play professional football at all? Seriously, I have nothing personally against Eli, but I saw nothing out of him in college that earned him the right to try and cherry-pick his own team. Maybe if he'd won a national title or two I'd feel differently, but to have the audacity to pull a stunt like that? It bothered me when Elway did it, and it bothered me when Eli did it, despite the fact that it looks like it turned out for the best in both their cases.

Hey now Lefty..if a player has that type of leverage ...they should go for it...if I can cherry pick the company I want to work for, I'd do it...sports should be no different...but Eli should have picked Dallas...

Yeah, I guess you're right, Gotham. Maybe I've been too hard on the kid.

If John Elway had just "shut up" he would have been a Colt migrating from state to state instead of being the legend of the Rocky Mountains. Plus I dont considering playing for teams like the Chargers, Cards, Lions, Saints, etc. actually playing football. I call it being damned. Thanks for telling me not to shut up Left...im the first to admit being with my girlfriend for a year has made me mentally insane.
