How will Washington approach free agency?

The NFL salary cap has swelled 44 percent in five years, from $80.5 million per team in 2003 to an expected $116 million this year.
The growth has left even some playoff teams flush with tens-of-millions in cap space as free agency approaches, but one team needs to trim another $6 million or so to live within the rules. That team is the Washington Redskins, of course. While at least a half-dozen other organizations lack sufficient cap room to operate comfortably, none can touch the Redskins for sheer largesse. Even after reworking several deals, the Redskins remained the only team above the projected cap, according to league sources.

ESPN - How Washington approaches free agency is anyone's guess - NFL

Is this a surprise to anyone??

I'm a little surprised they're over the cap. I mean, I've been expecting it to catch up with them for years, but it finally has. Seemed like year after year they just kept overpaying for mediocre players, with seemingly endless room under the cap. Maybe this is why Gibbs got out when he did - maybe the team's about to be gutted.

I wasnt surprised. Snyder has been spending money like it was going out of style. It had to catch up with them sooner or later.

I was more expecting sooner or later it'd come out that they were circumventing the cap somehow. But I guess not.

I never could figure out how they would just sign free agent after free agent. So the answer to your question Bette is - NO

Re: How will Washington approach free agency?

It is said that Jim Zorn is interested in bringing D.J. Hackett to the Redskins as their #3.

I had a feeling that the Redskins weren't going to be content at picking away at the Seahawks' coaching staff... Gr..

This has me very concerned, what with free agency getting closer and the fact that the Seahawks have not got a deal in place yet...

Wouldnt be the first time a new coach has gotten players from his old team, so I wouldnt be surprised.
