Belichick: Art Monk belongs in the Hall of Fame

Patriots coach Bill Belichick believes former Redskins wide receiver Art Monk should be a Hall of Famer. "He has the numbers, the stats and he won," Belichick said in an interview with Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports. "That was a very good offense he played on, an offense that transcended a lot of changes at quarterback. Yes, he had his role and he played it very well. So you have to ask, 'What's the criteria?'" I agree 100% - the man belongs in the Hall.

I also agree. He held the record for most receptions when he retired...didn't he?

Yep - 950 before Jerry Rice broke it in 1995. He also retired with the single season receptions record (106) and the most consecutive games with a catch (183). Furthermore, Monk was the first player to catch a TD in 15 consecutive seasons, was a member of the all-1980s team and was a member of the first trio of wideouts (along with Gary Clark and Ricky Sanders) to all post 1,000 yards receiving in the same season, 1989. He needs to be in the Hall of Fame, period.

Maybe its the Cowboy fan in me, but I never liked Monk. I sooner have Cris Carter make it this year.

Cool Re: Belichick: Art Monk belongs in the Hall of Fame

Monk was a the typical compiler who doesn't belong in the HOF. He was never a GREAT receiver. A very good one? Yes. But not HOF material.

Chris Carter is without a doubt. He was a dominant NFL receiver for about a decade.

See, I am with you on that...I mean yes, legit good receiver...but perhaps the product of the wide open passing attacks of the 80's...he compiled stats as a result of rule changes, not because he was better than the receivers of the 50's, 60's, and 70's.

And I could be wrong, but I think there is no h in Cris Carters name...
