Translation — Williams was looking for gamers from the crop of undrafted rookies. Tight end Buck Ortega from Miami making a play across the middle. Quarterback Brandon Kirsch of Purdue and receiver Derrick Fenner of Maryland trying to impress. Linebacker Spencer Havner of UCLA crossing the field quickly.

Of those guys mentioned in the last paragraph -- Ortega, Kirsch, Fenner and Havner -- do you think any of them can make the club? I saw a lot of Purdue last year... I'm not sure Kirsch has what it takes.

I don't think Fenner will either...I am not sure Washington is great at this... I remember the Cowboy staff in the 70's signing a lot of good free agent rookies...Gil Brandt I believe was the mastermind...
