| Gibbs Ready To Go? ![]() Over the past few years, we've been hearing rumors that Redskins coach Joe Gibbs is on the verge of calling it quits. And thus we've continued to ride that horse, realizing that, sooner or later, we'll be right. But just as we began to believe that Gibbs would make good on his promise to fulfill a contract that runs through 2008, there are now signs that Gibbs might be done. On Monday, Gibbs sidestepped questions regarding his status during a season-ending news conference. The Hall of Famer said that he plans to discuss his future with owner Dan Snyder. As to whether that means Gibbs will be back for the final year of his five-year deal, Gibbs said: "That will be one of the things we talk about. My situation will be one that Dan and I are going to visit with. We always do that at the end of the year." Recently, Gibbs has denied rumors that he has been offered a two-year extension. Waiting in the wings is defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, whose name has disappeared from the list of usual suspects for head-coaching gigs ever since he signed an agreement that puts him in line to succeed Gibbs. Williams previously was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills. ProFootballTalk.com -- The Best Pro Football Scoop on the Internet |

| Re: Gibbs Ready To Go? It would make sense for Gibbs to step aside and allow Williams to take over. Gibbs is getting up there in years. He's been there, done that, and has nothing else to prove. The simple fact that he took a team to the playoffs with yet ANOTHER quarterback is proof that he's still got it. But if he thinks it's time to go, he should go, regardless of where he's at or his team's at.
