Giants beat Redskins 34-28

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Tiki Barber rushed for a franchise record 234 yards and three touchdowns as the New York Giants all but clinched a playoff berth with a 34-28 win over the Washington Redskins on Saturday.

Barber had 23 carries and scored on runs of 15, 55 and 50 yards but the Giants (8- almost squandered a 20-point lead as the Redskins (5-11) mounted a late comeback.

However, thanks to Barber's performance in what he said was his final regular season game before retirement, the Giants are on the verge of playing in the post-season despite having lost six of their previous seven games.

"Most important, we had to win to keep playing," Barber told reporters after the game.
