Redskins RB Betts get his 1000 on bittersweet day
Cay Compass, Cayman Islands - 6 hours ago
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) – All last week, Ladell Betts allowed himself to imagine what it would be like to break the 1,000–yard barrier. He knew exactly how many yards he needed – 67 – and he sheepishly acknowledged that his new contract included an incentive bonus for reaching the mark.

Little did he know that his accomplishment would come on such a bittersweet day.

Betts reached 1,000 yards on Sunday – and tied a Washington Redskins franchise record with his fifth consecutive 100–yard game – in a 37–31 overtime loss to the St. Louis Rams. But Betts was the first to concede that his fourth–quarter fumble was the play that cost his team the game.

"It’s definitely a tough loss for me. You never want to look at one play and say that’s the reason why you lost the game," Betts said. "But it’s tough when you’re in a situation where we’re trying to score, we have a chance to take the lead and hopefully put the game away."

Glad to see Betts get his 1,000 yards, but it makes me wonder. Why is this kid not starting? Portis is all well and good, but he's injury prone and hasn't been as effecting in Washington as he was in Denver. I really think Betts might be the better back. What do you guys think?

I see Portis being traded. Why pay a RB that is getting hurt when you have a better back that can take the punishment and pay him less.
