Dmitri Young: NL Comeback Player

Dmitri Young of the Washington Nationals has been named the National League comeback player of the year.

According to the Associated Press, "Young, who made the Nationals' roster as the starting first baseman when Nick Johnson was unable to play because of an injury, finished tied for eighth in the NL in batting with a career-high .320 average. He had 13 home runs and 74 RBIs... It was Young's best season at the plate since hitting .302 with 21 homers and 69 RBIs for the Cincinnati Reds in 2001." Definitely the right choice, don't you think?

No-brainer. Now let's see if he can sustain his good play on this rotten club.

It is dumb that they break this into NL & AL. I mean he didn't even play in the NL last year.

Re: Dmitri Young: NL Comeback Player

To quote the AP: "Young batted .250 with seven homers and 23 RBIs in 48 games with the Detroit Tigers in 2006 and was released with less than a month remaining in the regular season after a troublesome year that included an assault charge, treatment for alcoholism and a divorce... Shortly after Thanksgiving, Young learned he was diabetic and spent three days in intensive care in a Florida hospital." Yeah, that's definitely comeback material.

Re: Dmitri Young: NL Comeback Player

I've got a soft spot for Young. He's played really well this year and showed so much enthusiasm for just being there. I'm psyched for him!

It seems to be a good match, too, Young and the Nationals. What happens to Nick Johnson this offseason, though? Is he gone?

No, I think he's coming back. I hope he is at least, and recovered from his injury.

He also was battling with drug or alcohol addiction last year was he not? I could be thinking of someone else though..
