Frank Robinson's 1000th Win

The Washington National's manager became the 53rd skipper in Major League history to win 1,000 games in yesterday's 10-4 victory over Philadelphia. Not exactly elite company, I suppose, especially considering that Robinson also has more than 1,000 losses and a losing record in his 16 seasons with the Indians, Giants, Orioles and Expos/Nationals. As Robinson himself said, "One thousand wins means you've been around a while and you've had a few good teams." What do you guys think of this?

Cool Re: Frank Robinson's 1000th Win

I think the man was a much better player than he is a manager...having said that, I am suprise that a Hall of Fame player gets to manage well enough for 1,000 wins...its a rare combo...

Well it is a great accomplishment to win 1,000 games in your career. As it is an achievement for the manager, it is also an equal achievement for a player.

Cool Re: Frank Robinson's 1000th Win

I love Frank Robinson as a manager. He's a no nonsense type of guy who doesn't cow tow to today's star athlete. And I loved last year when he stared down that umpire for like 3 minutes. And when he had that alteration with Scosia.

Pundit you pureist...Frank is old school...and those Nationals need to be loved man...like poor Soriano...all he wanted to do was play second base...was that asking too much of Frank really?...to cater to a fragile ego like Soriano's...

I remember when Frank was managing SF and a pitcher started to walk off the mound before Robinson got there and Robinson grabbed him by the arm and pulled him back.

Frank may be old school but he should have attended manager's school. I can remember him in the American League and he was bad! Great player, lousy manager.

Great players seldom make great managers...that's why the saying goes, "Those that can't... teach."
