Re: Alfonso Soriano, the T.O. of Baseball Bowden reportedly tried to speak to Soriano several times before he agreed to the trade, but the Rangers wouldn't allow him. A smarter GM might have realized that the reason he wasn't allowed to speak with Soriano is because any conversation would have led to the realization that Soriano won't pay OF. But Bowden decided to take a chance and do the deal anyway. So yeah, Soriano should have gone out onto the field the other night. But to be fair, he has stood firmly on this issue for years now. Bowden knew what he was getting.

It's a good thing for Bowden that Soriano came to his senses. Omar Minaya said the Mets had no interest because they're already paying Kaz Matsui 8 million and couldn't sink 10 more into the 2nd base position. Soriano should just be a good soldier to get his trade value up.

Re: Alfonso Soriano, the T.O. of Baseball Yes Gotham, The Mina Birds get me off track once in awhile. I'm going to have to find other criteria when checking the financial pulse of these major league players. Maybe a giant stork would be more appropriate. BBB

Re: Alfonso Soriano, the T.O. of Baseball The Nationals have a lot of leverage here in that I believe if Soriano goes on the disqualified list, he loses all the time he has accumulated so far as a major leaguer. He needs to admit that he is not an acceptable fielder as a second baseman and concentrate on the outfield.

Re: Alfonso Soriano, the T.O. of Baseball Not sure the comparisons to T.O. are fair... to T.O. that is. Look both guys seem to be "me first" guys who will only behave and do as their told when you threaten them in the pocketbook. But at least T.O. is one of the most physically gifted players in football. Soriano's pretty good, but is he even a top-10 MLB player? Not to mention that in his first two games this spring, he went just 2-for-7 with a double. Don't forget that this is a guy who also set a arbitration record for his salary this season - while losing and getting less than he asked for, to boot!

Re: Alfonso Soriano, the T.O. of Baseball And the beat goes on... Frank Robinson yanked Soriano yesterday after the second baseman - excuse me, left fielder - failed to run out a pop fly in the second inning. He claims he thought it was going to go foul, and said he respects his manager's decision. This was a problem when he was a Yankee too, right?
