Bowden "Embarrassed" By Nationals

Nationals GM Jim Bowden is not happy with his team, and has come out firing.

Washington Times, March 9: "But there have been some disturbing developments at Washington Nationals camp in the last few days, disturbing enough to cause the general manager to hold a 10-minute, closed-door meeting with his manager, then repeatedly declare himself 'embarrassed' while promising massive changes..."

Washington Post, March 9: "Bowden said that after Thursday's split-squad doubleheader -- against Cleveland in Winter Haven, Fla., and here against the Marlins -- there will be 'major cuts' involving 'drastic numbers."

What changes do you think Bowden has in store for the club, and do you think any of them will actually help?

Re: Bowden "Embarrassed" By Nationals

Bowden should be embarrassed. He should be embarrassed by the team HE has assembled.

- HE signed Cristian Guzman to a 4-year $16.8 million contract prior to last year.

- HE traded for Brian Lawrence without ensuring the proper physical testing was done.

- HE traded 2 of the most highly touted individuals in the organization (including a HUGE fan favorite in Brad Wilkerson) for Soriano, whose opinion he didn't respect about a change in position (I don't support Soriano in this situation but what kind of GM does that?)

- He assembled a team for this year without a proven leadoff hitter - seems like a bad idea considering this was once of the worst offensive teams in 2005.

The best thing Bowden has accomplished was getting Sammy Sosa to say no. Oh wait, he wanted a yes...I forgot...If I didn't know better, I'd think Bowden was double-agent who is really employed by the Marlins, Mets, Braves or Phillies.
