Question Sammy Sosa to Washington Nationals?

The Associated Press is reporting that the Washington Nationals have offered Sammy Sosa a contract -- one that is light on guaranteed money and packed with performance-related incentives. The deal's apparently not done yet, as the team is waiting for Sosa's response.

What about this? I know Sosa's had a few good years and has 500-plus career home runs, but is there anything left in the tank? He only hit .221 with 14 dingers and 45 RBI last year with the Orioles. From what I hear, he's also a notoriously bad clubhouse presence. Is this a gamble worth taking for an up and coming Washington ballclub?

Say it ain't so Sammy

Sammy Sosa (a.k.a. Corky) does not have anything left. This once great baseball player is out of gas. His bat is slower, his defense has waned, and he no longer makes contact consistently.

I think it's not too surprising that Sammy has fallen apart ever since MLB got a bit serious about testing for roids. His cross-eyed charm has waned even since he was busted for the corked bat. I've always thought Sammy was a quality ballplayer - but he doesn't have great baseball instincts. Great players who have a feel for the game can hang on. Sammy doesn't have it.

Sosa is done, there's just nothing left in the tank for the 'ol cheater. He's lost all confidence, Baltimore just sucked the life right of him ( nobody there helped him get out of a season long slump ... yes, coaches should be accountable in baseball.) That being said, if anyone could convince Sammy to give it another go, it's Frank. Soriano, Vidro, uh ... Soriano ... not like he'd be going to a contender. They should NEVER have traded Brad Wilkerson. I was at the game he hit his first dinger opposite field just inside the foul pole. A pure ball-player with a good head on his shoulders. Big mistake.

Cool Sosa to Mets

If I were a betting man, I would guess that Sosa ends up on the Mets. Omar Minaya has been obsessed with bringing him to the Mets and now it won't cost them didley squat....And their right field situation is a little uncertain with Victor Diaz and Xavier Nady. Personally I wouldn't do it. Let Diaz play every day and see what you have.
